Maija Louekari is a Helsinki-based freelance illustrator and designer. Her career began in 2003.
She won a design competition co-sponsored by Marimekko and the Helsinki University of Art and Design. Inspired by small observations of everyday life, her patterns combine narrative line drawings with the skillful use of strong color surfaces. Her most famous designs for Marimekko are Siirtolapuutarha (Allotment Garden) and Räsymatto (Worn Rug).
